Good Things 20% #4

Some of the good things that I have going is that German is pretty easy to learn. The hardest thing that I've accomplished is finding a reliable place to learn German from. I haven't really asked anyone for help because learning German is really easy.

Midway 20% #3

I think I am a little behind on meeting my goals. I think I need to go over all the words that I have learned so far. I am learning a lot of new words and meanings. It is also really hard to remember what I have learned.

Difficulties and Successes 20% #2

What I have learned about creating a blog is that you have to just say what is in your mind. Learning a new language is hard because you've been speaking a language forever and learning a new one is confusing. I have learned a few words though just simple words but you have to start somewhere. There's an app on my phone that helps me keep on track and learn a language.

German History 20% #1

I have learned that the German language is the official language of Germany and Austria. I have learned that the recorded history of Germanic languages begins with their speakers’ first contact with the Romans, in the 1st century bc. There are about 90 million speakers of German.

First Day 2/17/17

Today I am going to start learning about German history for my 20% time project and maybe learn a few words.

Project Proposal

Stone Pearson
Proposal: Learning German
I am going to learn German
Needs and Opportunities
Are you solving a problem for yourself or others? How will this project be a learning and growing experience? What is your goal? I really want to learn a language besides English and I think I will like German. This project will help me learn about the German language. I will research some German cultures too. My goal for this year is to be able to learn at least 150 German words by the end of this year.
Audience / Clients / Users
Explain who will benefit from your project. Who is your audience – who might be interested in following your blog and learning about your project? I will benefit from this project because I learn a new language. My friend will probably benefit from this project because he is in German and I think it will help him if he teaches me. People interested in my blog will probably be people who want to learn another language too but they think it’s too difficult. My audience will be people who want to learn another language like me and they might want to figure out how I did it.

Mentors
Who can help you with this project? Who will you need to contact and what will you ask them to commit to in helping you? My friend can help me with this project because he is in German. I will just contact him to come over to my house and he can help.

Timeline
What is your monthly timeline for this project? I want to see a list of deliverables with deadlines. You may find that the timeline needs adjustment during the course of the year, which may be fine. Check in with me if that’s the case.

Product
What is the actual product you will show this spring? This project may or may not be made of atoms or bits, but you must have something to show. I’m not interested seeing a bunch of great ideas at the end of the year. I want to see things. Use a poster board that shows all the words I learned and the English words that they mean next to them.
Technology
You will have to use technology in some way on presentation day – think about how you can use the tools available to add life into your project and enhance what you are doing. (Video, laptops, apps, cell phones, music, etc.) On my laptop create a PowerPoint of all the things I learned every day and then show that off.
Reality Check
I am looking for you to shoot for the moon here and do anything you can dream of, but even moonshots need budgets. What equipment are you going to need? What other capital expenditures do you anticipate, and how will you meet them? My phone has an app that keeps me on track every day and teaches me things about it and its even free.
Possible Roadblocks
What other roadblocks can you predict – time, resources, motivation etc. Explain what you might do when you come to each roadblock to reach your goal. My friend can help me with this project because he is in German. I will just contact him to come over to my house and he can help.

Conclusion
Wrap it up. Why are you fired up about this project? Inspire me to support you, and give me a great reason to approve your project. I haven’t ever learned another language besides a little bit of Spanish and I think it will be fun to learn new languages.
